Gerry George Obituary

Thelma Geraldine George, 85, of Fort Worth, TX, formerly of Berryville, AR passed away April 11, 2019.  Gerry, as she was called by family and friends, was born September 11, 1933 in Oklahoma City, daughter of Floyd and Velma (Goforth) Doty.

In 1940, Gerry moved to Frederick, OK where she graduated from High School. She worked as a “soda jerk” and a clerk for J.C. Penny during her High School days. Gerry wanted to be a nurse most of her life and earned her Nursing Bachelor’s Degree from Oklahoma School of Medicine in 1954. During her training, she met Richard George and they became engaged.

Richard and Gerry met for the first time on November 3, 1952 on a triple date. Richard was working at the Boomer Theater while attending University of Oklahoma in Norman. Their next date came in April 1953, when Gerry came to the University of Oklahoma for her psychiatric affiliation training. On August 11, 1955 they were married in Frederick, OK. Over their 63 years of marriage laughter was never a shortage as Richard had a joke for everything.

Gerry worked as a Registered Nurse for over 50 years and was employed at multiple hospitals, including Mercy Hospital in Berryville. Her salvation was experienced at 12 years of age. Her faith and love of God remained the most important part of her life.   She was a member of Berryville Assembly of God Church where she and Richard spent endless hours volunteering in many areas including, Choir, visiting the sick, and any area that was needed.  Gerry loved her husband with all of her heart and was a devoted Military Wife.  Her children and grandchildren were her treasures.  Her legacy is her love and kindness for people. She had a way of making people feel like they were always welcome and a part of HER own family.  Her hobbies were sewing, crafts and ceramics.

Gerry is survived by her husband Richard George of the home, children, Deborah George of Berryville, Mitzi Hudson and husband Forrest of Cumming, GA, Terri Nix and husband Michael of Fort Worth, Kimberly Miller and husband Jon of Fort Worth, grandchildren, Angela and Daniel Hogan, Alicia Hudson, Matthew and Denise Nix, Mary Katherine and Drew Bergman, Jonathan and Christy Nix, William Stroud, Austin Stroud, Marissa George, Kaitlin Griffin, Drew Bicknell and Morgan Miller, great-grandchildren, Tyler Porter, Liam Hogan, Ava, Benjamin, Samuel, Josiah and Ella Nix, Lauren Griffin, her puppies,  Taffy and Snoopy  (she considered her children) . She is preceded in death by her parents, one son, David George and 2 infant brothers.
