Ann Snyder Obituary

Mary Ann Snyder, 96, a resident of Harrison passed away peacefully on Sunday June 9, 2024, at home surrounded by family.

Ann was born April 18, 1928, at Palmyra, AR to Charley and Grace (Ross) Stone. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Frank, and her sons Carrol Snyder and Dean Snyder.  Ann is survived by her son Bill (Brenda) Snyder of Berryville, daughter Eve (David) Borg of Harrison, daughters-in-law Carol Ann (Carrol) Snyder of Green Forest and Gina (Dean) Snyder of Oak Grove.  She adored her grandchildren - Bruce (Deanna) Snyder, Mark (Celina) Snyder, Heather (Josh) Arnold, Matt (Cassie) Snyder, Billy (Kristina) Snyder, Bridget (John) Contreras, Bree (Henry) Adams, Mike Snyder, Travis Snyder, Carrol (Melinda) Hoffman, Erin Hoffman, and her many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Ann obtained a business degree while in high school and used it in businesses during the beginning of WWII.  She graduated as valedictorian of her high school class.  Then she attended the University of Arkansas where she drove a convertible and majored in Home Economics.  While at the university, she met the love of her life, Frank Owen Snyder, and married him on September 2, 1948.  After graduating, Frank and Ann moved to the farm in Green Forest where they raised their 4 children.  Ann followed the footsteps of the 3 prior generations of women in her family who were valedictorians and became a teacher.  Ann taught English and Home Economics in Green Forest until 1967.  Ann was active in the Homemaker Club and 4-H as a leader.

During Ann’s bountiful life, she found a spiritual home in the Green Forest Baptist Church after attending the Farewell Church with traveling preachers from various denominations.  Ann and Frank managed the Farewell Cemetery for many years.  Ann remained faithful to God even during her later, less-mobile years by attending Southern Heights Baptist in Berryville with her son, Bill, who diligently transported her to church and took her out to lunch every Sunday.  While her heart will forever be in Farewell, Ann found a temporary home in Harrison and peacefully lived with her daughter, Eve, for the five years before her passing.

Ann instilled warmth and grace everywhere she went.  She always made sure everyone was served before serving herself but was never afraid to do what she wanted–regardless of anyone else’s opinion.  That hardheadedness was good for the world because Ann had a strong, and good, moral compass.  She was always doing what was right.  Ann’s loved ones will continue her legacy by spreading her warmth, grace, selflessness, and hardheadedness that she taught them.  Ann will be greatly missed.
