Bonnie Lee (Gunn) Mokew Obituary

Bonnie Lee (Gunn) Mokew, 94, of Lincoln, California, went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 18, 2026.

Bonnie was born on June 22, 1931, in Green Forest, Arkansas, to Edward and Letha Gunn. She was one of six children and grew up on the family farm, later in life, proudly referring to herself as a “tough Arkansas farm girl,” a phrase lovingly started by her sister, Rosemary.

On September 7, 1952, Bonnie married William “Bill” Mokew in Richmond, California. The two met while working at the Oakland Naval Supply Center and built a wonderful life together in Sacramento, California, and later Kimberling City, Missouri. Following Bill’s passing, Bonnie moved to Lincoln, California, in 2015.

Bonnie was a devoted Christian who faithfully prayed and read her Bible every day and was deeply proud to be part of the Southern Baptist community. Throughout her life, she served faithfully in many church roles, including Women’s Missionary Union (WMU) Director, Vacation Bible School (VBS) Director, Sunday School teacher, and choir member. Her lifelong love for God was reflected in the kindness, generosity, and compassion she always showed to others.

Along with her deep faith, family was the center of Bonnie’s life. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She cherished her son David and daughter Kathy, adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, andsured every moment spent with her siblings, nieces, and nephews. Bonnie spoke often and proudly of her family and found great joy in their accomplishments and happiness. She loved hosting Gunn family get-togethers and was known for serving delicious food and always making everyone feel welcome and loved.

Bonnie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Phil Brelje; four grandchildren, Ryan (Jacqueline), Cherie (Chris), Krystal, Billy; seven great-grandchildren, Aaron, Gabriel, Dominic, Hailey, Peyton, Josie, Evie; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bill, of 62 years, her son, David, her parents, Ed and Letha, her five siblings, Elveda, Frank, John, Rosemary, Bill, her niece, Jean and five nephews, Johnny, Kenny, Eddy, Greg, and most recently Bobby Frank, her very first nephew.
