David Allen Grisham of Alpena relocated to his heavenly home on September 13, 2023 at the age of 79 years. He was born to the late Edd and Sue Grisham at Lick Branch near Alpena.
David, a graduate of Alpena, was the jack of all trades. He was an assistant manager at Wal-Mart, worked at KC Meat Wholesale, was an auctioneer, and worked in construction. David also worked at Alpena Schools where he kept his eye out for two of daughters. He drove the athletic bus and enjoyed supporting all of his “ball boys”. In David’s later years, he worked in the telecommunication field and was a mechanic at Kubota Tractor. David was a lifelong farmer.
David was known by loved ones as “D.G.”, while others called him by the nickname “Windy”. D.G.’s claim to fame was his ability to laugh so hard that he would end up in tears. His chuckle would turn into a full belly laugh. David could often be found following his grandchildren to their activities. One of his favorite pastimes when he was younger was going with the men of the family to deer camp. D.G. enjoyed fishing trips with buddies and camping trips with his family. David had an extensive hat collection. On Easter, all the kids knew that there would be at least one egg hidden under his cap. He was a woodworker who often made clocks, picture frames, chairs, and cedar chests for his family. In his later years, he spent time going to sale barns and sitting outside in his chair. David was never late to anything a day in his life. He was tormented by a special friend, Danny Youngblood, for over forty years.
Along with his parents, David was preceded in death by his sister, Edna Kay Maybee and his brother, Gary Grisham.
David is survived by his wife of 51 years, Connie (Savage) Grisham; his “girls” -Melissa Smith (Don), Jennifer Grisham, Alisha Norris (Heath), Shelley Fason (Dustin); grandchildren Drew Smith (Candice), Aubrey Fausett (Chris), Makayla Smith, Austin Boyle, Rachel Graham (Jacob), Madison Fancher, Alivia Norris, Hudson Norris, Hagen Norris, Karleigh Fason, and Baylee Fason; 9 great-grandchildren, and sister Sarah Newman (Randy).
Celebration of Life service will be 2:00 PM Monday, September 18 at Smith Family Funeral Home. Internment will follow at Alpena Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Sunday, September 17 at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are Danny Youngblood, Randy Newman, Don Smith, Heath Norris, Dustin Fason, Roger and Ricky Grisham. Honorary Pallbearers are his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, Curt Savage, David Savage, Rick Savage, Steve Savage, James Fancher, & Ricky Stone.
