Don Chaney

Donald “Don” Keith Chaney, age 82, of Berryville, passed away Saturday, September 28, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. He was born December 27, 1941, in Berryville, AR, the only child of Fred and Alma Miller Chaney.

Don graduated from Berryville High School in 1959, and he immediately started working for Ocoma Foods (soon to become Tyson Foods). On June 11, 1966, he married Mary Ellen Moore and together they raised 2 children, Christi and Brad. Mary and Don were long time members of Berryville First Assembly of God Church (Church On The Hill) where they attended faithfully throughout their life. He worked for Tyson Foods for 46 years, retiring in 2006.

Don was a hard-working, family man. He would work all day at Tysons and then head to the farm in Urbanette as soon as he could, working cattle and keeping up the farm. There wasn’t a day that would go by that you wouldn’t see him crossing the fields in “Moonie Maroonie” (his maroon 1970 Chevrolet pickup) or walking the fence lines of the farm. In his early years, he spent many nights coon hunting the hills between Urbanette and Cisco Road. He was dedicated to his family; they always came first.

Don is survived by his son Brad and wife Danette Chaney of Urbanette, son-in-law Dale Seitz of Berryville, grandchildren Hunter Seitz of Dry Fork, Chaney Stafford and husband Davis of Berryville, Cole Chaney of Urbanette, and Will Chaney of Urbanette, and great granddaughter Sage Stafford of Berryville. He is also survived by sister-in-law Kathy Smith and husband Jim of Berryville, nephews Steve Smith and wife Regina of Hot Springs, Rick Smith and wife Tiffany of Green Forest, and niece Sheila Robnett and husband Casey of Bella Vista, as well as numerous other close family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Fred and Alma Chaney, wife Mary Chaney, daughter Christi Seitz, and father and mother in-law Richard and Johnnie Moore.

Celebration of Life service for Don will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, October 3, 2024, at Smith Family Funeral home in Green Forest, with Pastor Keith Butler officiating. Interment will follow at Rule Cemetery.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, from 10-11 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Rule Cemetery.
