Dorothy Johnson Obituary

Dorothy L. Johnson, age 69, of Green Forest, AR, passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2025, with her loved ones by her side. She was born April 13, 1955, in Tulsa, OK, to James Clarence and Frances P. Huff. She grew up in Sand Springs, OK as the eldest sister to Marie and James.

Dorothy attended school in Sand Springs throughout her life and graduated with the Class of 1973 from Charles Page High School.

She briefly pursued an interest in music through an undergraduate program before moving on to other dreams.

On July 3, 1975, Dorothy married Dan Johnson at the Lutheran Church in Sand Springs. They were blessed with two sons, Jeremiah and Nicholas. Though Dorothy and Dan later went their separate ways, their shared love for their family endured.

Her career began with a long tenure of nearly 20 years at the Bank of Oklahoma before she left to pursue undergraduate studies at the University of Tulsa in psychology and Russian. During her course of study, she joined a language study abroad program wherein she lived in Russia with a local family for six weeks. After returning home, she further hosted the son of this same family for his own English language study in the US.

After TU, Dorothy changed her career and worked for Oklahoma Tag Agencies for the next decade. She then changed again, working briefly at a medical instrument’s facility and then Goodwill where she discovered her future lifelong calling as a caregiver. Dorothy would go on to care for a great number of people in a variety of health conditions, always providing the very best preventative and maintenance care in her own unique way.

Her great compassion for others and her immense capacity to do seemingly any task, regardless of difficulty or disgust, with such a high degree of excellence is one of her single most endearing qualities which is admired by so many who know and love her.

It is within this role of an amazingly compassionate caregiver that so many have come to know and appreciate her. This is also what brought her future partner, Steve Smith, into her life as well. After caring for Steve's ailing mother until her dying day, a relationship that neither of them were looking for, began and blossomed. In a very short time, both found the help and love they needed in each other, sharing a great many good times and sweet moments with family and friends. The tables were turned, however, with Dorothy's cancer diagnosis and treatment in that she was now the grateful recipient of so much love, prayer, care, and practical daily assistance that she had once rendered so faithfully to others. In a divinely sweet twist, Steve and close family were able to be with Dorothy until her last breath.

Dorothy had a joy and love for life that made a positive impact on everyone around her. She was a caring and loyal friend, always putting others first, and that compassionate spirit led to a life of service as a caretaker for those in need. She would often worry about anyone else but herself. Her faith in God was important to her, and she would bless and pray for anyone at any time, often with stunning results and fun stories to share.

Dorothy enjoyed fishing, reading self-help books, and spending time with friends and family. She had a passion for vitamins, herbs, and miracles. She will be dearly missed by all who loved her.

Dorothy is survived by her sons Jeremiah Johnson and wife Kimberly of Cleveland, OK, and Nic Johnson and wife Mioto of Sendai, Japan; sister Marie Huff-Solomon and husband Keith of Mannford, OK; grandchildren: Kayleigh Brown, Samantha Brown, C.J. McIntire, Alyssa McIntire, Mordacai Johnson, Phinehas Johnson, and Eleazar Johnson; great-grandchildren: Bryson Brown, Dean Miller, Spencer Miller, Malechai Miller, Kadan Sturch, Hazel Sturch, Elliott Sturch, Paetyn McIntire, Jayce McIntire, Brinleigh Schroeder, and Bella McIntire; sister-in-law Connie Kallberg-Huff; niece Natasha Jensen and husband Kacey; great nieces and nephews Caroline McClure, Albert McClure, IV, Casen Jensen, Maddie Jensen, and Violet Smith; partner Steve Smith of Green Forest; and a host of dear cousins, relatives, and friends who dearly loved her.

She is preceded in death by her parents James C. and Frances Huff, brother James C. Huff, Jr., and ex-husband Dan Johnson.
