Gladys Wooten Obituary

 

Gladys Wooten, age 94 passed away peacefully in her home Thursday morning, September 5, 2019. She was born July 22, 1925 in Green Leaf, Kansas, to Roy Wilbur and Mary Elizabeth Wells.

Gladys grew up in Green Forest, Arkansas and graduated Green Forest High School in 1942.
After attending college in Arkansas, Gladys moved to Detroit, Michigan, where she was employed as a supervisor at Michigan Bell Telephone. Gladys married Charles Wooten on July 7, 1976 in Detroit.  She retired from Michigan Bell after 22 years with perfect attendance.

She was passionate about collecting antiques and enjoyed talking often to her relatives long distance on the telephone. She was a member of Central United Methodist in Detroit where earlier in life she taught Sunday school for many years.

 Gladys was preceded in death by her late husband Charles who died on July 6, 1993 and two siblings.

 She is survived by daughter, Elizabeth Susan Munro; three granddaughters, Emily JanJanin, (Michael), Rebecca Balkon, (Corey) and Elizabeth Setter; great-grandsons, Caden and Jax Balcon; sisters, Nina Eastburn and Dorothy Vaughan; and brother Don Wells.

She will always be remembered by her friends and family as Boggy, the name her grandkids gave her.

Celebration Of Life will be 2:00 PM Wednesday September 11, 2019 at Smith Family Funeral Home in Green Forest. Interment will be at Glenwood Cemetery in Green Forest.
