JC Braswell of Oak Grove, AR was born April 5, 1929, in Denver, AR to Hobert and Bonnie (Cody) Braswell. He departed this life in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family on Saturday June 3, 2023.
JC served his country for over 20 years in the United States Air Force (Berlin Air Lift, crew chief on a C47 known as the “stork run” which carried expectant mothers from the European nations to military hospitals, served as crew chief over five missile silos in Kansas during the Cuban Missile Crisis. His last overseas deployment was to Vietnam in 1968). After retiring from the U.S. Air Force, JC worked several jobs, including the United States Postal Service, as a courier for BioRouche Medical, Burns Security Guard and Alcan Cable as a heavy machine operator.
In 1952 JC met and married Lillian Nuttal of Manchester, England, she preceded him in death. On August 5, 1995, he married Lula Marriott Carmical and they celebrated 27 years of marriage. He fulfilled a life-long dream of owning and operating a farm once he returned to the Oak Grove area. At the age of 92 he was still working hard, mowing and baling hay on the farm. He was known to be a fair but firm man. He always dressed sharp, and he made his wife feel like she was the queen of the world. He loved to hunt, fish and travel. He was a member of Christ Tabernacle Church in Blue Eye, AR.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 27 years, Lula of the home; 3 sons, David (Audrey) Braswell of Oak Grave, Delbert (Angela) Carmical of Oak Grove, and Don Carmical of Oak Grove; 6 granddaughters, Sonja (Tom) Ferris of California, Kathy Wilson of Hawaii, Kim (Brandon) Webster of Oak Grove, Kayla (Alex) Stroup of Clever, MO, Paula (Jacob) Garcia of Florida, and Pamela Carmical of Blue Eye, MO; 2 grandsons, Jon Bailey of Oak Grove, AR, and Austin Carmical of Blue Eye, MO; 3 great grandsons, Jack London Ferris, JJ Soto and Mateo Garcia; and 1 great granddaughter, Rory Wilson. Also surviving is his brother, Kenny (Carol) Robinette, his sister-in-law, Rosalee Braswell, his hunting buddy, Dr. Mark Corbell, and many nieces, nephews and dearly loved family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Lillian B. Braswell, 3 brothers, Chester (Jackie) Braswell, Elmer Braswell, and Jerry Robinette, and 4 sisters, Estalee (Glynn) Phillips, Elzie (George) Bilyeu, Lula (Donald) White, and Sharon (Bob) Walker.
Celebration of Life Service for JC will be Friday, June 9, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Smith Family Funeral Home in Green Forest with Pastors William Meadors, Kenny Robinette, and Doug Grinder officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Eye Cemetery with Military Honors provided. Visitation will be Thursday, June 8, 2023, at Smith Family Funeral Home from 5-7 PM.
