James Roy Fultz Obituary

James Roy Fultz of Berryville, AR, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, October 31, 2025, at the age of 83.  He was born in Rudd, AR, on November 24, 1941, to William and Ella Burks Fultz.

On April 25, 1964, James Roy married the love of his life, Carolyn High, celebrating 61 years of marriage this year. Together they raised 4 children, Angela, Melodie, Tabatha, and Brandon, on their farm just north of Berryville. He worked as an equipment operator for 30 years for the Arkansas State Highway Department. Even after retirement he loved to be outside, working with his backhoe anywhere he could find a project to work on. His hobbies included fishing, playing horseshoes, music (in his younger days his family would participate in music parties), and old cars (he still has his first car, a 1939 Chevy).

James Roy was not a materialistic man; he liked for things to be simple. He enjoyed having people sit and visit with him. He loved to help people, whether it was working on equipment or lawn mowers, or bulldozing and doing backhoe work. Most of the time his work was for free or for minimal payment. And he loved his grandkids, they were a joy to him, and he loved playing with them. He had many adopted children and grandchildren who were brought into the family, and once you were brought into the family you were a part forever. He never said a bad word about who the kids brought home; all their friends were welcomed and loved as if they were his own. He was a dedicated man of faith who lived the Christian life. He was a member of Towering Oaks Church in Berryville.

James Roy is survived by his wife Carolyn of the home; daughters Angela Fultz Marsee of Berryville, AR, Melodie Payne of McRae, AR, Tabatha Simmons of Berryville, AR; son Brandon (Amy) Fultz of Berryville, AR; grandchildren Kelsie (Chad) Gann, Draik (Amanda) Marsee, Race (Jenna) Payne, Maverick (Sydney Windorf) Payne, Sydney (Cole) Butler, Samantha Chaney, Tyler Payne, Mattie Fultz, and Kolton Simmons; great grandchildren Margo, Beylin, Urijah, River, Lincoln, CJ, Kensleigh, Bexley, and Cooper; brother, Jr. Fultz of Wichita, KS; 2 bonus grandchildren, Aaron Redd and Harley Redd; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Ella Fultz; grandson Alex Phillips; sisters Jemima Gehl, Janetta Murphy, Joyce Kriesel, and Hazel June Parker; and brother Jewell Fultz.
