John Paul Mays, age 83, of Berryville, received his heavenly reward on Tuesday, June 11, 2024. He was born March 26, 1941, in Oak Grove, LA to William and Audrey Burr Mayes.
John worked many years as an HVAC technician, owning his own business for most of those years. His family relocated to northwest Arkansas where he spent much of his time volunteering at church, spending time with grandchildren, gardening, cooking, and fishing. He was a jack of all trades, able to fix anything he put his mind and hands too. He was a man of traditional values, living out his faith in Jesus Christ. He was a member of Landmark Baptist Church where he served closely assisting his pastor and church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served his country for 4 years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Martha J. Mays, the mother of his children Eloise C. Mays, children Clifton L. Gabel, Gina D. New, Walter D. Mays, and John P. Mayes, Jr., siblings Linda G. Wood, Dorothy Francis, Raymond Mayes, and W.C. Mayes, grandchild Lamar Gabel, and great grandchild Rodd Aaron Griffin, Jr.
He is survived by daughter Tina N. Mays of Pelzer, SC, son Paul Mays (Jezreel Mahaffey) of Alpena, AR, brothers Jimmy W. Mays of Shreveport, LA, Alvin L. Mays of Omaha, AR, James Mayes of Marianna, FL, and Kenneth Mays of Center, TX, and sisters Delores Morris of Liberty, MO, and Carolyn Brocato of Quartzsite, AZ. He is also survived by 14 Grandchildren, 27 Great Grandchildren, 1 Great-Great Grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Celebration of Life service for John will be 10:00 AM, Monday, June 17, 2024, at Carrollton Cemetery with Pastor Jewel Vance officiating. A funeral procession will start at 9:30 AM at Smith Family Funeral Home in Green Forest with Warriors Watch Riders and Combat Vets Motorcycle Association leading to the cemetery.
