Elvan Larry Riggs, known to everyone simply as Larry, was born on August 5, 1938, in Wellington, Kansas, and passed away on July 3, 2026, from natural causes,in Green Forest, Arkansas, his devoted loving wife, Ruth, by his side.

Leaving behind a life that reflected strength, faith, devotion, and a spirit that inspired all who knew him, Larry lived with purpose and heart. He was a man who understood that a life well lived is not measured only by years, but by the love shared, the courage shown, and the memories created along the way. He carried himself with a steady presence, a warm sense of humor, and a creative mind that found joy in the simple and meaningful moments of life. Those who knew him will remember him as loving, funny, and creative, a combination that made him unforgettable and deeply cherished.

He was born to Oliver Morton Riggs and Elva Ladys Prothro Riggs, both of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth Riggs, his five adult children, including the late April Carroll Johnson, and their families, along with several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and two sisters. Larry graduated from Ventura High School in Ventura, California, and he carried the discipline and determination of a hardworking young man into every season of his life. He served his country in the United States Army with the RFA Regiment F, and later served as an officer reserve in Oxnard, California. His service reflected his sense of duty, honor, and commitment to something greater than himself. He believed in doing what was right, standing firm when needed, and leading with quiet strength. His life of service was a testimony to the fact that true leadership is often found in humility and steadfastness.

Faith was an important part of Larry’s life. As a Christian, he lived with a belief in God’s goodness and a hope that extended beyond the challenges of this world. His faith gave him strength, shaped his outlook, and helped him face life with grace.

Larry also knew how to enjoy life. His number one hobby was fishing of any kind, and he found peace, excitement, and satisfaction in the patience and joy that fishing brought him. Whether on the water or simply sharing stories about the one that got away, he embraced the experience with enthusiasm and appreciation. Along with fishing, he loved traveling, he had various other interests and hobbies, which all reflected his curiosity and his willingness to enjoy the world around him. He leaves behind a legacy that will continue to speak through his family, his friendships, his service, and the countless memories he created.

Larry’s life is a reminder that love is stronger than time, that laughter can lift the heaviest heart, and that creativity and kindness can leave a lasting mark on the world. He lived with intention, and he encouraged others simply by being himself. His presence was a gift, and his memory will remain a source of comfort and strength. Celebration of Life service will be 11 AM, Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Smith Family Funeral Home with Bro. Ethan Strawn officiating. Interment will follow at Farewell Cemetery.
