Larry Doyle Scitern, Sr., age 82, entered his eternal home in heaven on March 28, 2022. He was born October 3, 1939, in Anton, TX, the son of Earl and Winniefrede (Chance) Scitern.
On January 14, 1961, he married Jo Ann Granger and they celebrated 61 wonderful years of marriage. Together they raised 2 children, Larry Scitern, Jr. of Alpena, AR and Teresa Scitern Maybee of Berryville, AR.
Larry (also known as Big Larry and PawPaw) enjoyed life and was known for his big heart, for helping others, and for his great sense of humor. He certainly had a gift for making people smile. Larry loved taking the grandkids fishing. He also loved singing and playing guitar, and he often wrote songs and funny little jingles for his family and friends.
Larry was a truck driver most of his life, working for various trucking companies in the area as well as owning and operating his own truck. He was an excellent welder and taught many others the trade. He was a member of the Alpena Church of Christ.
He is survived by wis wife and 2 children; 4 grandchildren, Stephanie Scitern, Christopher “Chip” Moore, Blake Moore and Shea’ Moore; brother Jerry Don (Joyce) Scitern; sister Scharlott Pippin; and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, grandson AJ “Austin” Moore, great grandson Tylynn Bryant, sister Nancy Clark and nephew Michael Carter.
Celebration of Life service for Larry will be Saturday, April 2 at 2:00 PM at Smith Family Funeral Home in Green Forest. Interment will follow at Sand Flat (Auman) Cemetery in Alpena. Visitation will be Friday, April 1 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Bill Arnold and Justin Curry will officiate the service.
