Lewis Stamps Obituary

Lewis Wesley Stamps (84), of Osage, Arkansas passed away at his longtime family farm surrounded by loved ones on October 5, 2021.  Lewis was born in the Osage, AR family home established in 1843 on February 9, 1937, to Grover and Edna Allred Stamps, being the youngest of three boys.  The family farm was Lewis’ home through high school, where he graduated from Alpena High School in 1954.

Lewis left Osage, Arkansas following high school graduation and moved to Wichita, Kansas to work for Skelly Oil Company.  During this time, Lewis met Rose Mary Green, fell in love, and moved to Kansas City, Missouri to marry Rose on July 21, 1956.  Lewis and Rose recently celebrated the 65-year union of Green-Stamps.  Making their home in Northeast Kansas City, MO, Lewis worked for Montgomery Ward and eventually became an over-the-road truck driver.  Lewis’ time on the road took him coast-to-coast, driving for Rival, CKC, Bill Star Trucking Company, and Midwest Express.  Lewis logged over 3 million miles on the road before retiring in 1997 and returning to Osage, Arkansas.  Each mile focused on his dedication and desire to support his family.

Lewis was the model of boundless kindness, generosity, and skill.  He was the loving father to Lewis Wesley Stamps, Jr., Danny Phillip Stamps, Tommy Dean Stamps, and grandson, Eric Dean Stamps.  The boys remember the hard work and tireless commitment Lewis had for his family.  He built the family home in Independence, Missouri, ensured his parent’s farm was well-maintained in Arkansas, while spending time fishing, hunting with his dog Duke, and raising cattle.  Lewis enjoyed a quiet Saturday afternoon watching Gun Smoke, card games with family friends, coin collecting, building and fixing things, and spending time at Boy Scout camp with his grandson Nathan,  He enjoyed bowling in the bowing league at Allen’s Bowl when he lived in Kansas City.  Most of all, Lewis loved the beauty and comfort that God provided him and his family in the Osage, Arkansas valley.

Lewis is preceded in death by his mother, Edna Allred Stamps; father, Grover D. Stamps; brothers, Jackie and Billy Stamps; and sons, Lewis Wesley, Jr. and Tommy Stamps. He is survived by his wife Rose Mary Stamps; son Danny Stamps (Pegi); grandsons, Eric and Nathan Stamps (Mandi); granddaughter, Melanie Stamps; great granddaughter, Ava Stamps and other close family and friends.
