Linda Smothers Obituary

Linda Louise Potter Smothers, the daughter of Thomas Carlton and Helen Marie (Hauber) Potter was born on June 2nd, 1943. She passed peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Friday Dec. 1, 2023, at the age of 80 years old.

She lived a full life of many adventures. Some of her hobbies were sewing, crafting, baking, and gardening. She would sew professionally at Levi’s, The Garment Factory, From the Heart and for her family and friends. She loved to spend time with people whether that was going camping at the lake, baking for all her grandkids or going on her walks around the block. She was known for her hard work and integrity when it came to anything she did in life. Sonny, her husband of 61 years, would grow the best garden every summer and the grand & great grandkids would have many memories of helping in the garden and later learning how to can and preserve what they grew. It was important to her to pass down these lessons of life to whoever would listen. She was a kind, loving, generous and passionate person. Generally, she would tell you what you needed to hear instead of what you wanted to hear, but that was Nanny and that was ok! She loved to travel and see the country and was always encouraging others to go see new places.

In May 2022 God was gracious enough to give us 18 more months with Nanny. She was grateful for this time and had such zest for life. She would say, “I guess God didn’t need me yet.”  She was our miracle, and we would soak in every ounce we could in this time with whatever she wanted and felt like doing. She would tell the ones caring for her, “I just hope you have someone to take care of you like you all have done for me.” She was always looking out for us even when she couldn’t help herself. That was our kind, loving, generous and passionate person we called Nanny.

She is survived by her 3 children, daughter Cheri and her husband Denny Wood of Fayetteville, daughter Sheila and her husband Brian Barnes of Berryville, and son Austin Smothers of Green Forest. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren, Brock (Mandy) Wood of Fayetteville, Zach (Sara) Wood of Fayetteville, Shelby (Alex) Newkirk of Heber Springs, Lasche (Jerad) Finch of Carr Lane, Vanessa (David) Armer of Green Forest, Keshia (Donnie) Tomlinson of Berryville, Dalton (Erica) Ewing of Osage, Maeghanne Smothers of Green Forest and Cordale Smothers of Green Forest, 27 great-grandchildren, and sister-in-law Faye Smothers.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years James Sonny Smothers, her parents, 1 sister Nancy Boren and 1 infant brother, and her brother and sisters-in-law Kenny Smothers, Freddie & FM Massengale, Joy Smith Molder, Pence Smith and Sam Molder.
