Lonnie Usrey

Lonnie James Usrey  Sr, age 77, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, April 17, 2021. He was born October 3, 1943 at Osage, AR son of the late Willie and Lillian (Smith) Usrey.

Lonnie was raised on the creek at Osage, fishing, hunting, building and following in his dad’s footsteps from an early age.  He later worked along beside his dad, building houses and a lot of the Green Forest School Buildings.  On December 7, 1962 he was united in marriage to Barbara Garner.  They bought a farm at Carrollton where they owned and operated a dairy farm for a number of years.  Lonnie was a master craftsman and could make anything he set his mind to, including fiddles, cabinets, furniture and crafts.  His other interests were making arrowheads, raising honey bees, running a honey route, running a bulldozer, spending time on the mountain, pulling pranks on folks and visiting with people at his “honey house” in Carrollton.  Lonnie especially enjoyed spending time with his family.  He was an active member of Alpena First Baptist Church.

Lonnie is survived by his wife of 58 years, Barbara Usrey, children, Vanessa Kelley (Joey) of Carrollton, Lonnie James Usrey Jr (Stephanie) of Warrenton, VA , Faron Usrey  (Jennifer) of Carrollton and Byron Usrey (Christie) of Carrollton, grandchildren, Heath and (Hannah) Kelley, Lonnie James Usrey III, William Usrey, Abigail Usrey, Jacob Usrey, Ashlin Usrey, Caleb Usrey, 5 great-grandchildren, one sister, Fern Smith and a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Justin Kelley and 3 brothers, Melvin, Gary and Dwane Usrey.

Celebration Of Life will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at Alpena First Baptist Church with Pastor Justin Knight and Freddie Blevins officiating. Interment will follow at Carrollton Cemetery.  Visitation will be 5-7 PM Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at Alpena First Baptist Church.
