Marlin Gene Sims, 69, of Osage, went to his heavenly home, on December 23, 2020, with family by his side.
The son of Billie and Charlene (Allred) Sims was born December 18, 1951 in Harrison, AR. He graduated Alpena High School in 1969 and completed his Auto Mechanics Diploma from Twin Lakes Vo-Tech in 1970.
Marlin started out working at Alpena Texaco where he earned The Mystery Car award, for his exceptional customer service. In the following years, he worked at various other occupations: Michigan pipeline, Tyson Security and other departments there. He later owned a grade A dairy and eventually transitioned to beef cattle, while simultaneously returning to Tyson as a Live-Haul truck driver, where he worked until retirement. It was there that he earned the nickname “toothpick”, seeing as he never went anywhere without a toothpick.
He came to know the Lord as a teenage boy, but as often happens, went his own way for many years. With the diagnosis of cancer in 2016, he found himself drawing near to the Lord again. As his trial continued, his faith and trust in the Lord was renewed and deepened. He faithfully attended the men’s Sunday school at Osage Baptist Church until recently, when he was unable.
Beneath the rough and gruff exterior, was a soft spot for those in need, especially children. He was a proud father of his two girls and Papa to his two grandchildren, who were his pride and joy.
He was preceded in death by grandparents: Waco and Effie Sims and Garland and Eliza Allred, parents; Billie and Charlene Sims and brothers; Marvin, Milton, and Melvin Sims.
Marlin is survived by his daughters, Marlana Norton and husband Mark of Lowell, Katrina Wiles and husband John of Springdale, brothers; Marty Sims and James Sims of Osage, AR, grandchildren; Liberty and Gabriel Norton of Lowell; a host of nieces and nephews, and dear friend, Jody Hunter of Green Forest.
Celebration Of Life will be 12:00 PM Saturday, December 26, 2020 at Smith Family Funeral Home in Green Forest, AR. Shane Gilliam will officiate with interment following at Alpena Cemetery. Visitation will be 11:00-12:00.
