Martin (Marty) Bruce Nies, age 71, of Eureka Springs, AR passed away at his home Sunday, December 8, 2019. He was born October 26, 1948 in Stafford, KS to the late Walter and Addie (Hagelgantz) Nies. He will be laid to rest in Nashville, TN where he will await the second coming of Jesus Christ.
Marty graduated from Enterprise Academy in Enterprise, KS and later furthered his education to earn his associate degree from North Arkansas College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, stationed in Anchorage, AK where he served during the Vietnam War. On July 28, 1974 he married Janet Lee Wagner. They moved to Arkansas in 1980.
Marty and Janet owned and operated Nies Automotive in Berryville. He loved his work in collision repair (auto body repair). He was a man of his word and was known for his attention to detail and going beyond his customer’s expectations. He also taught collision repair to students at Northeast Technical College in Springdale, AR for six years. Passing his knowledge on to his students gave him great satisfaction.
An important part of Marty’s life was truck and tractor pulling. He pulled in the two-wheel drive super modified class driving vehicles named Hot Rod Lincoln, Feelin’ Lucky, and Takin’ Chances. One of Marty’s proudest moments was when he won his class in the National Farm Show Invitational in Louisville, KY while wearing casts on both feet.
Marty is survived by his wife Janet Nies of Eureka Springs, sisters, Gloria Sutherland and husband Duke of Goodlettsville, TN and Bonnie Schroeder and husband Dave of Laramie WY, nieces, Cari Wright of Hendersonville, TN, Cassie Kenerson of Goodlettsville, TN, Sarah Crum of Salt Lake City, UT, and a nephew, James Shawver of Laramie, WY. A host of friends and family will miss him dearly.
