Mary Ann Shafer

Mary Ann Shafer, age 68, of Alpena, AR, passed away in Fayetteville, AR, Sunday, June 25, 2023. She was born February 26, 1955, in Waterloo, Iowa, daughter of Leo and Ola (Dixon) Barker.

On February 24, 1979, she was united in marriage with Gene Shafer. Mary Ann had been employed at a number of places, including Mass Merchandise and Tyson Foods. She loved spending time with her family and was a loving mother and sister.

Mary Ann is survived by her children, Jesse Shafer of Alpena and daughter Vanessa Lee Shafer of Alpena, grandchildren, Logan Lee, Isabela Lee, and Areana Lee all of Alpena, sisters, Tereasia Marshall and husband Steve of Green Forest, Gwenda Fryar and husband Sheldon of Green Forest, Pamela Barker of Green Forest, Gail Howard and husband Raymond of Rogers and a host of nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

She is preceded in death by her husband Gene Shafer, parents, Leo and Ola Barker, brother and sister-in-law Leo Jr. Barker and Laurie Barker, sister, Brenda Bass, nephew, Raymond Howard Jr. of Rogers, grandparents, Polly Ann Mitchel Dixon, Samuel Dixon, Harry James Barker and Mary Francis Foster.

Celebration of Life service will be 10:00 AM Friday, June 30, 2023, at Alpena Cemetery.  The visitation will be 5-7 PM, Thursday, at Smith Family Funeral Home.
