Neal E. Nichols, 73, passed away June 26, 2023, as a result of lengthy and debilitating health problems. He was born January 8, 1950, in Enid, Oklahoma to Sylvia Mae and George V. Nichols. He was a military soldier who voluntarily joined the Unites States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Neal was serving as Sargent during the war and was severely injured and consequently suffered from serious complicated health problems for the remainder of his life. He loved nature, people, and animals and was well known in the community around Carroll and Boone counties. He was always ready and willing to help a friend and will be sorely missed.
Neal was born the third of four children and two stepchildren. He was preceded in death by Sylvia Mae Smith (mother) and George V. Nichols (father) Paul E. Smith (stepfather), Nathan L. Nichols (brother) and Randy Nichols (nephew.) He is survived by Dr. George V. Nichols (brother) and Dr. Patsy A. Nichols (sister-in-law), Murray, KY; Vickie L. Parras (sister) Dallas, TX; Pauletta Norman (stepsister) Green Forest, AR; Tina Allen, Oak Grove, AR, Christopher C. Nichols (son) Dermott, AR, and Sara Smith (daughter) Tacoma, WA, in addition to several nieces and nephews. A private graveside military service will be conducted at 2pm on July 1, 2023, by Smith Family Funeral Home. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the American Legion or the Humane Society.
