Shirley McAlister Obituary

Shirley Sylvia Still McAlister, daughter of the late Vernon Harding Still and Sylvia Marie Ridenour Still,  was born August 12, 1944 in Wheaton, MO.  She departed this life Tuesday May 11, 2021 at her home in Green Forest, AR at the age of 76 years.  She was united in marriage to Don McAlister on June 1, 2001.  Shirley spent her life as a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and friend.  She attended school up to her Jr. year in Wheaton, MO, then her family moved to Green Forest and she attended school there her Jr. and Sr. year, graduating in 1962 from Green Forest High School.  From there she went on to cosmetology school and became a beautician in which she made a career out of for several years.  She was also a teacher’s aide for the Berryville Head Start Program, and eventually retired from the Learning Center in Green Forest. 

Shirley was a member of the Green Forest Cowboy Church and enjoyed being a leader of a team of the “Mercy Riders”, a group that helped with fund raising for community and church members alike who were in need.  Shirley’s favorite pastime was camping with her husband Don.  She also enjoyed baking pies, canning, cooking and making her famous “apple butter” jelly that her children and grandchildren loved.  She enjoyed yard sales, both hunting bargains and having them, and selling “anything that wasn’t nailed down.”  She loved spending time with her family and friends. 

Shirley is survived by her husband of 20 years, Don McAlister of the home, 4 children: Terri Dickinson and husband Randall of Oak Grove, AR, Tammi McCutchen and husband Gary of Harrison, AR, Kevin Meek and wife Chrystal of Gainesville, MO, and Jason Davidson and wife Stacey of Green Forest, AR; one brother, Gary Still and wife Sissy of Rocky Comfort, MO; one sister Becky Kimbrough and husband Danny of Longview, MO; 10 Grandchildren; 10 Great-Grandchildren; Nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives, and many good friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Sylvia Still, and one sister Verna Jean Still, all of Wheaton, MO. 

Celebration of Life services for Shirley will be 2:00 PM Friday, May 14, 2021 at Smith Family Funeral Home in Green Forest with Brother Billy Williams officiating.  Interment will follow at Glenwood Cemetery . Visitation will be 1:00-2:00 PM before the service begins.  Online condolences may be made at www.smithfamilyfuneralhome.net
