Thomas Garrett Obituary

Thomas Duane Garrett, age 86, of Green Forest, AR, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 13, 2019. He was born February 24, 1933 in Fort Smith, AR, son of the late Max and Mary (Armstrong) Garrett. Thomas graduated from High School in Fort Smith and attended the University of Arkansas for 2 years. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-1955 during the Korean War. On June 10, 1952 he married his High School sweetheart Lois Whitsett. Thomas retired from Harding Glass in Fort Smith where he worked as shift foreman. After moving to Wichita, KS he worked for Coleman Company, taught heating and air-conditioning and later retired from Mercy Hospital, Fort Smith as Maintenance Supervisor. He was first and foremost a Godly man, faithful to family and church. Thomas is remembered as being honest, trustworthy, loving practical jokes and kids. He was a member of Berryville First Freewill Baptist, served on the Board and taught Adult Sunday School for a number of years. He had a special love for the children and was known as the “candy man.” He enjoyed studying the Bible, hunting, fishing, swimming, traveling, driving his tractor and mowing. He is survived by his wife Lois Garrett, daughters, Sherry Pearson and husband Gaylon of Tulsa, OK, Melody Strodtman and husband Greg of Green Forest, Cynthia Russell and husband Floyd of Fort Smith, son, Max C. Garrett II and wife Leanna of Van Buren, grandchildren, Kenny Enegren, Mark Hartenberger, Christopher Strodtman and wife Florence, Rebecca Hart and husband Rob, Chris Halstead, Del Raie Nickel, Samantha Reed, great-grandchildren, Gavin Ward, Ethan Hartenberger, Lelani Strodtman, Alyssa Toleson, Ashley Toleson, Christian Passmore, Logan Halstead, Cameron Halstead and brother-in-law, Doyle F. Whitsett of Fort Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandchild, Jeffery McCune, mother and father-in-law Gussie and C B Whitsett. Graveside Service will be 10:00 AM Thursday, December 19, 2019 at Berryville Memorial Park, Berryville, AR.  Pastor Mitchell Scitern and Bro. Wayne Writer will officiate with interment following.
