Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer
Jim is owner of Smith Family and is a licensed funeral director and embalmer. After graduating from Green Forest High School he went on to graduate from Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science. He and his wife Kathy have been married for 52 years. They have 3 children and 11 grandchildren. Jim has truly lived a life committed to service, including: serving in the Army, his church, kids sporting events and the community. He is a member of Berryville Church On The Hill and the Gideon's. In his free time he enjoys hunting, fishing, wood-working, golfing, gardening and spending time with family and friends. Jim says, "This opportunity that Kathy and I have been given of owning our family business is a dream come true. It has enabled us to serve families and make them feel they are receiving the personal attention that is required in personalizing each funeral"
Licensed Funeral Director
Kathy graduated from Alpena High School in 1967. After becoming a nurse she worked as an LPN for 27 years before becoming a licensed funeral director. Kathy is a member of Church On The Hill, Berryville, AR, Mercy Hospital Auxiliary and the Gideon's. She loves spending time with her family, interior design work, reading and taking long walks. As a terminal care nurse for many years Kathy became well trained in dealing with grief and her focus is always on the needs of the people she serves. "Helping families during their time of enormous sadness is truly a ministry. I feel honored and privileged to comfort and support," she says.
Mary graduated from Alpena High School in 1965 and a few years later married Don Chaney. They had two children before their daughter Christi 's untimely death in 2010. Mary is a member of Berryville Assembly of God Church and Mercy Hospital Auxiliary. In her free time she enjoys decorating, traveling and spoiling her four grandchildren. She says, "after retiring from my beauty shop I missed being of service to people. The past 13 years of helping bring comfort to the bereaved has been more rewarding than I could have ever imagined ."
Don is a life-long resident of Berryville. He has assisted at the funeral home since 2005. He graduated from Berryville High School and retired from Tyson's Food in Berryville where he had worked for over 45 years. He is married to Mary Chaney. He is a member of Berryville Assembly of God Church. He enjoys staying busy on the farm, hunting, fishing and most of all spending time with his family. Don says he is impressed with the attention to detail and professional care Jim and Kathy give to every family, and the part he likes is working behind the scenes, being a good listener and a friend.
Assistant Funeral Director
Tony moved from Mississippi, where he served as a pastor, funeral director assistant and Hospice Chaplin for a number of years. He and his wife Sheila have 2 children and they are former pastors of Christ Tabernacle Church in Blue Eye, Missouri. His hobbies include golfing, hunting, traveling and spending time with his family. He has worked at the funeral home for the past 12 years as assistant funeral director and hosted their grief support groups. Tony states, "A quiet and caring touch is needed when meeting families who have just lost a loved one, compassion and understanding of this kind is what Smith Family Funeral Home is about".
Kenneth has been working at Smith Family Funeral Home since 2010. He is a lifelong resident of Alpena. After graduating from High School he married Judy Fraley and they had one daughter. Judy died in 2011 and he later met and married Linda Bailey who also works at the funeral home. For 31 years he worked for the AR Highway Department until his health forced him to retire. Kenneth is a licensed ordained minister with the Free Will Baptist association. His hobbies include fishing, traveling and taking pictures. He and Linda enjoy spending time with their 5 children and a number of grandchildren. Kenneth says he is thankful to have the opportunity to share his ministry with people that are hurting and to work with the compassionate staff at Smith Family.
Linda was born in Texas and has lived in Boone County for the past several years. She had four children before her marriage to Kenneth Booth in 2011. Together they enjoy 5 children and a number of grandchildren. Linda previously worked as a secretary and a Direct Care Staff for people with Special Needs, including her daughter. Her hobbies include crocheting, working on her computer and spending time with family. She enjoys working along, beside Kenneth, in every area of his ministry. "There is no better feeling in the world than being there for someone who is hurting — it is my passion" says Linda.
